About the Food Bank
The aim of the Foodbank is to help those in need by supplying food parcels of staple foods to the households.
Barvas Foodbank was set up in April 2019, at the start of the Covid-19 Pandemic and first lockdown, as a way to help those most in need by the parents of the local youth club. Urras Bharabhais were invited to help and the board agreed that Ivan should help. Ivan has been helping with the administration and searching for funding to keep the foodbank running, as well as keeping the stock of food stuffs at an adequate level and delivering food parcels when required. Funding was also secured for their own premises which is now located beside the Barvas and Brue Community Hall in the blue container. The Foodbank covers the area of Dalbeag to Port of Ness.
The Foodbank has been greatly supported by the Local CNES councillors, Calmac Community Fund, Tesco, Well Being Fund, Response, Recovery & Resilience Fund, USOB and Barvas and Brue Community Hall Committee. The Foodbank is great to all these supporters but most of all the Food bank has been supported by the local residents through the donations of food and money.
Donations can be handed in to the Foodbank at the container on Tuesdays between 2.30pm and 3.30pm or you can phone Alice – 07876724790 to organise another time. Monetary donations can also be sent by bank transfer to the account details above.
